Artist AnalyticsYouTube Music-specific insights

To be eligible for an Official Artist Channel, your channel must meet all of these:

  • At least 3 official releases delivered to YouTube through LabelGrid (not just one).
  • The channel name must exactly match your LabelGrid artist metadata — same spelling, punctuation, and capitalization.
  • The channel must represent a single artist or band (not multiple artists).
  • At least one public video uploaded to the channel.
  • The channel must comply with all YouTube community guidelines.

LabelGrid submits the OAC request to YouTube on your behalf — you don’t self-link.

  1. Make sure all the prerequisites above are met.
  2. Contact LabelGrid support to request OAC linking.
  3. YouTube reviews your channel eligibility, the metadata match, and your content.
  4. Processing can take up to 90 days (this is YouTube’s window, not a guarantee).
  5. LabelGrid notifies you once you’re approved or rejected.

Common reasons for rejection: the channel name doesn’t match your artist metadata, fewer than 3 releases on YouTube, the channel covers multiple artists, or no public video has been uploaded.

Once you have an OAC, you can customize these elements:

Official Artist Channels get special music sections:

  • Official Music - Your released tracks and videos
  • Albums - Full album pages
  • Singles - Individual releases
  • Featured on - Playlists featuring your music

Shorts are vertical videos under 60 seconds. They’re a powerful discovery tool on YouTube.

  • High visibility in YouTube’s algorithm
  • Reach new audiences beyond your subscribers
  • Can use your own music as the sound
  • Drive traffic to your full videos and channel
  1. Hook viewers in 1-2 seconds - Start with action
  2. Use trending sounds - Including your own music
  3. Post consistently - 3-5 Shorts per week for best results
  4. Cross-promote - Share Shorts on Instagram Reels and TikTok
  5. Add captions - Most people watch without sound initially

As of 2025-2026, YouTube shares ad revenue with Shorts creators:

  • Revenue is pooled from ads between Shorts
  • Distributed based on views and music usage
  • Paid through YouTube Partner Program

YouTube offers multiple ways to earn from your content.

TypeHow It Works
Ad RevenueMoney from ads played on your videos
YouTube MusicStreaming royalties (through LabelGrid)
Super ThanksOne-time tips from viewers
Super ChatPaid messages during live streams
Channel MembershipsMonthly subscriptions from fans
Merch ShelfSell products directly on your channel

To monetize directly, you need:

  • 1,000 subscribers
  • 4,000 watch hours (long-form) OR 10 million Shorts views in 90 days
  • Follow all YouTube policies

Content ID is YouTube’s system for tracking and monetizing your music across the platform.

  1. LabelGrid delivers your audio to YouTube
  2. YouTube creates a “fingerprint” of your track
  3. When someone uses your music in their video, Content ID detects it
  4. You can choose to: monetize, track, or block
PolicyWhat Happens
MonetizeYou earn ad revenue from videos using your music
TrackYou see analytics but don’t claim revenue
BlockVideos using your music are taken down

Recommendation: Most artists choose “Monetize” to earn from user-generated content while letting fans use their music.

  • Don’t claim content you don’t own
  • Be consistent with your policies
  • Monitor for false claims on your own videos
  • Review Content ID analytics to see where your music is being used

When you distribute music through LabelGrid, YouTube automatically creates Art Tracks for each of your songs. These are auto-generated videos that display your album artwork while the song plays.

  • Full-length audio of your track
  • Album artwork displayed as the video
  • Title, artist, and album information
  • Available on both YouTube and YouTube Music
  • Your music is available on YouTube even without a music video
  • Art Tracks can be included in YouTube Music playlists
  • Fans can listen to your full catalog
  • Art Tracks appear on your Official Artist Channel once set up

YouTube has been expanding its editorial playlist program:

  1. Deliver releases early through LabelGrid (2+ weeks before release)
  2. Provide complete metadata including genre and mood
  3. YouTube’s editorial team reviews new releases
  4. Selected tracks are added to official playlists

There’s no formal pitch form like Spotify, but early delivery and complete metadata increase your chances.
